    Blueberry Superfood Smoothie

5 Ingredient Recipes, Breakfast, Drinks, Snacks

Anyone else always victim to the 3 p.m. slump? It’s usually the time I crave something sweet, and I admit, most of the time it’s chocolate or a little scoop of ice cream. But lately, I’ve been on a smoothie kick, and with this blueberry superfood smoothie, I triumph over that 3 p.m. slump. Begone, sleepiness! Hello, fructose!

As you’re probably aware, I typically photography my food in my fancy at-home studio (which is a marble slab, a photo light, and my kitchen table, just an FYI). But photos of my blueberry superfood smoothie seemed most fitting in the one place I usually enjoy it—right at my desk.

Around 3 p.m. when I start to feel that slump, I mosey over to the kitchen. In the freezer I have a few frozen bananas, blueberries, and kale—all of which I threw in the freezer at the beginning of the week for this very smoothie routine.

I find freezing the fruit and kale create a better smoothie consistency. You can obviously throw all of these ingredients without freezing them, but the texture really won’t be as good. So just do yourselves a favor and freeze a bunch of bananas, blueberries, and kale to prep for these smoothies later in the week.

Frozen blueberries are cheaper. Go to the frozen food section and find that store-brand bag of frozen blueberries. They are perfectly fine, and likely a lot cheaper than grabbing the fresh blueberries in the produce section. The last time I bought a bag of frozen bluebs, it only cost me $2.99.

The blender & protein powder I use

I don’t have a ton of room for a huge blender in my apartment, so I have a small NutriBullet. It works blends up smoothies really nicely and has such a great quality for the price.

Honestly, I use my blender for a lot of things! I make blender protein waffles and even recently made oat flour for this healthy zucchini bread recipe I made for work.

For protein powder, I really like the Tone It Up Unsweetened Protein Powder. It’s plant-based, tastes really good, and doesn’t leave you any weird after taste as some other protein powders will. I highly recommend it.

Alright, let’s get to that smoothie.
