I have to admit…sometimes TikTok is pure genius. The amount of ideas you can discover on that platform is wild. I’ve been making videos on it lately (kind of just a fun thing, don’t plan on doing much with it), and this week I discovered the amazingness that is blended baked oats. Instead of just baking your rolled-cut oats (like I do in this baked oatmeal recipe), you can actually blend the ingredients and bake them to make a perfect little cake. How fun is that! So I had to give it a try and made up this chocolate banana blended baked oats recipe.
Think of this as a mini chocolate chip banana bread all to yourself. Because that’s essentially what you get when you pull these chocolate banana baked oats out of the oven. You can even take it out of the little dutch oven and eat it like a little cake on a plate, or just do what I do and eat forkfuls right from the dutch oven itself.
Wait, that’s a cake! Isn’t it supposed to be oatmeal?
Here’s why I super love this recipe—the ingredients are all blended up! By blending up your oats you get an oat flour, turning your baked oats into a cake consistency instead of an oatmeal consistency. I blend up the ingredients using my NutriBullet. These chocolate banana baked oats are a bit dense compared to other cakes thought. I would say it’s closer to banana bread, but even a little denser than yet. But still fluffy enough to have you believing you’re eating cake for breakfast.
Also…I will admit, the chocolate chips really aren’t needed for the recipe. I love me a little chocolate chip banana bread, so that’s what inspired this idea. But if you aren’t the kind of person that likes sugary things in the morning, just skip the chocolate chips. You could even throw in something else—like blueberries or walnuts—if you like!
What do you bake them in?
Where did I get this mini dutch oven, you ask? Oh, well…Target of course! I love using this thing. This 0.5-quart dutch oven makes perfect little dishes for one, and now it’s my favorite thing to use when making baked oats.
Or if you’re more of an Amazon person, you can snag a similar mini dutch oven right here. Larger 8 oz. ramekins (like these) will also work well for this chocolate banana baked oats recipe.
And once you have a little dutch oven, well, you’ll likely want a few recipes to make in it. So here are a few of my fave mini dutch oven recipes:

- Baked Brie
- Shakshuka (divide the recipe into 1/4!)
- Bacon Veggie Frittata (divide the recipe by 1/4!)

And now, chocolate banana baked oats!

Could I just make this in a large round, glass baking dish instead? I don’t have ramekins, but this looks delicious and a great way to make a sort of healthier breakfast for the kids!

Hi, I think so! I would just double or triple the recipe for a larger dish.
