Want to take a cooking class with Stephanie Izard? Um, yes. That’s definitely the kind of email I’m going to respond to. I was very lucky enough to take an online cooking class with Stephanie Izard, a James Beard award winning chef who was the first female to win Bravo’s Top Chef in 2008. Oh, and she owns a few amazing restaurants that I’m obsessed with in Chicago, which is how I originally heard of her. So how could I say no to a class where I not only got to cook with her, but also hear about her new line of products?
This Little Goat is a line of sauces and spices that are inspired by the ingredients used in many of Izard’s restaurants. The Southeast Asia, in particular, is a popular sauce used on her famous sauteed green beans dish at the Girl and the Goat—one of her first restaurants. And yes, I got to learn how to make it. It’s moments like these that make me so thankful I work in this industry.
As you can see, her line of sauces and spices are a bit different than what you would see on the market. I mean, you’re not going to find recipes out there that call for a tablespoon of This Little Goat Went To Belize spice or a 1/4 cup of This Little Goat Wen To Korea sauce. So I guess the question is, what do you do with these?
You experiment. You use the sauces to marinate your meats or top roasted veggies. You use the spices to give some flavor to all kinds of dishes—even topped on cakes or pies. Izard is inspiring you to get creative and try new things.
But if you really need it, they have a list of recipes on Pinterest you can check out.
I’ve already experimented with these on my own (stay tuned for a pork fried rice using the Tokyo sauce…), and I’m particularly in love with the Korea sauce and the India spice. But I’m not exactly in a place yet to pick a favorite. Still playing around with these.
As of now, the sauces are unavailable on Amazon. But the spices are! I’ll still link them here if you want to save it for later.
