I think now, more than ever, I feel incredibly grateful. I have a lot of ways that I am supported and loved, a great community around me, a creative online space to practice my craft, and a career I enjoy. Yet there are many right now that are seriously struggling and thinking about it burdens me. But…the best thing I can do right now is to be home and social distance from others. So, how can I help the world and support those in need? Well…I’ll shop.
It may seem silly, but hear me out. There are a lot of businesses out there that are doing what they can do also support others, like donating a percentage of profits to frontline workers. Plus, shopping means supporting small and medium-sized businesses, and right now they could use all the support we can give them. If you’re asking me, those all seem like great excuses to buy a little something, something for yourself.
So I thought it would be nice to show you five different businesses you can buy from right now that are doing direct donations with every purchase (or snap of a photo!) to help others.
Also, as a disclaimer, this post does not have affiliate links. Affiliate links means I receive a commission, however, because of the nature of this post, I decided to not include them. I want full profits to go where they should—including the hands of those that are in need.
Sanita Clogs
Sanita is a shoe company that’s been in operation since 1907. They make clogs in all kinds of styles, but their most popular customer base includes medical professionals, restaurant staff, and even teachers. These comfortables shoes are a godsend for people who are on their feet all day—I’m personally obsessed with my pair. In this picture, I’m wearing the Ellis Women’s Open Bag Clog, and I’m officially in love.
Until the end of May, Sanita is donating $10 for every pair of clogs sold. They’ll even donate an extra $5 for everyone who signs up for their email list! These proceeds are being equally distributed to #GetsUsPPE, a company that provides protective gear to front line medical workers, and the James Beard Foundation, which support chefs and restaurant owners with funds and resources.
Grayling
If you’ve wanted to expand your jewelry collection, well, now’s a great time to start. Especially when buying a single ring from a company like Grayling means feeding 50 meals to those in need! Yep, you heard me right. Grayling is donating proceeds to Feeding America to help get food on the table for others. Every $1 donated means getting at least 10 meals to families in need. They are donating 10% of all orders on the site to this organization. So why not pick out a pretty piece and help feed others?
Kendra Scott
Kendra Scott is another jewelry company giving to those in need. But don’t worry, their jewelry selection is slightly different in style, so it’s not like you’ll have to decide between the two. In their Shop For Good campaign, they are donating 50% of the proceeds from their Everlyne bracelet to Feeding America. So far, Kendra Scott has donated over 2.4 million meals to those in need thanks to this campaign, and it doesn’t look like it will be slowing down anytime soon.
Hydros
If you’ve been thinking about getting a new filtered pitcher or water bottle, now’s a great time to do so. Not only are the designs of the reusable bottles, carafes, and pitchers from Hydros gorgeous, but they come in all kinds of colors. Oh, and 1% of net sales will be donated to frontline and healthcare workers. On top of that, if you’re a frontline worker yourself, you can get 25% off by using the code ESSENTIAL at checkout.
Instant Pot
Whether you already have an Instant Pot or not, you can easily join in on the campaign they are running! If you cook a meal in your Instant Pot, snap a picture, and post it using the #InstantPotChallenge hashtag, Instant Pot will donate an Instant Pot Duo Nova to Save the Children until June 15—up to 10,000 units! How sweet is that? If you don’t have one yet, well you can always snag one on their site. Plus, I have a delicious Spicy BBQ Pulled Pork recipe you can make in it for your post!
Or simply donate!
If you want to just cut the middle man and donate directly to a foundation, the James Beard Foundation is a great place to start.
Did you know that the food and beverage community employees 16 percent of the American population? According to the James Beard Foundation, 60 percent of the money going into restaurants is going right back out into their local communities. Besides serving great food and drink, the local watering holes you love to frequent in your neighborhood really are making a difference to the community around you. While some restaurants are doing what they can to stay afloat and keep business going (like turning into small markets and handing out cocktails-to-go), a lot of eateries have shut their doors for good. Yet while it may seem like we can’t do anything about it, there really are ways we can serve those restaurants that have served us well for so many years. By donating, you are helping those restaurants and workers in need around you.
Let me know in the comments below or over on Instagram if you decided to shop for a cause! I love hearing from you.
