A few weeks ago, Pinterest announced that charcuterie boards are likely to be a top food trend for 2021. And I mean, I get it. Who doesn’t love a good charcuterie board? But…it’s not like it’s a new trend. Charcuterie boards have been all over the Internet lately, especially because people just love snacking while they’re at home. Anywho, a new trend or not, I’ve had charcuterie boards on the mind since Pinterest’s 2021 trend report (speaking of…let’s be friends). So I whipped up a holiday charcuterie board this weekend and thought I would share it with you all.
Naturally, this charcuterie board follows my cheese board formula that I constantly use. Two kinds of cheese, two starches, one meat. However, as you can tell, I doubled the formula. I have four kinds of cheese (two hard, two soft), two types of meat, and three starches. It’s not four starches…but that’s because those baguette slices took up a majority of the board and it felt like overkill to me to add more.
For the rest of the board, I decided to really lean into the sweet factor. I mean, it’s the holidays, and the holidays are all about sweet treats! So while my cheese board formula usually calls for one sweet and one salty snack, I added three salty snacks and eight sweet things. Sorry not sorry.
If you’re feeling inspired and want to make this exact board yourself, here’s what I put on it!
Cheese
- Gouda wheel
- Goat cheese with herbs
- Brie wedges
- Red wine cheese
Meats
- Pepperoni slices
- Summer sausage slices
Starches
- French baguette slices
- Wheat Thins
- Triscuits
Sweets
- Apple slices
- Peanut brittle
- Grapes
- Dark chocolate stars
- Dried apricots
- Raspberries
- White chocolate-covered pretzels
- Chocolate covered peanuts
Salty
- Mini dill pickles
- Kalamata olives
- Mixed nuts
Decorations
- Pomegranate halves
- Rosemary sprigs
I know this list is particular, but here’s my honest take on a cheese board: it really can be a hodge-podge of anything. Most of this cheeseboard was inspired by what we had in the fridge and the pantry at the time, and other sweet treats we had lying around. Sure, you can follow this board list, but if you follow my cheese board formula with whatever you have, I promise it will be a killer holiday charcuterie board no matter what.
