I'm just so happy events are happening in the city again 🥰 This is a little reminder to get out and explore. If anything, these past two years have taught me to never miss a moment to enjoy this beautiful life.

Look at me posting twice in a day! I just had to let you know that tomorrow's newsletter is all about myth-busting a major misconception influencer culture has perpetuated about protein intake—and you don't want to miss this one.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

We can't deny the facts—protein does have a thermic effect on your body and it leaves your body satiated and satisfied after a meal. Yes, you should be eating protein.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

But is eating over 100 GRAMS of protein a day wise advice? Some fitness influences are saying everyone should eat this much protein MINIMUM in order to lose weight, but nutrition science doesn't back up this claim.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

We downgraded! 🗑🙌🏼

Oh hi hello. This is a photo of my sweaty self after a workout this morning next to two trash bins, which I had to snap because I'm just so excited about this. Let me tell you why.

Back in 2017, I made a pact with myself that I would try to reduce my waste. It has been a slow process of continuing to make changes in my life that would reduce the waste that I consume, and even though my husband was skeptical at first, he's now fully on board with me.

In the past 4 years, we are...

🗑 Consistently composting our food scraps, bringing them to farmer's markets or brown bins once a week.

🗑 Committed to buying a majority of our groceries through @imperfectfoods in order to reduce food waste within the agricultural system.

🗑 Buying most of our products in good, recyclable materials and making sure to clean and recycle all of them properly.

🗑 Making swaps for reusable items - silicone bags, containers, to-go cups, water bottles, cutlery, towels, batteries, tote bags, etc.

🗑 Eating less meat 🙊 No we're not vegan, just not eating it all the time.

🗑 Shopping second-hand for (almost) everything and repairing my clothes and shoes as best I can. Do I fail and shop sometimes? Obviously.

We have a long way to go, but these things feel significant. And because of all of this change, we find ourselves using our trash bin less and less...which can be a problem when you A) forget to change the trash, and B) go on vacation and leave it. You can just imagine how awful that was. 🙃

So...we decided to get a smaller trash bin! Maybe you think this is wasteful because I already have one, but honestly, having it is a motivation for me. It shows me that even when the changes feel small and insignificant, they will add up and make a difference later.

We swapped our 15-gallon trash bin with a 7 gallon and bought some medium-sized trash bags (which will honestly fit down the garbage shoot a lot easier than the big ones). Swipe to see the size difference. 👉🏼

Real talk—what confuses you about nutrition? What are the claims people are making online that have you scratching your head? 🤔 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Recently I did a survey among some of my readers and a majority of them voiced they are tired of so much NOISE online about what to eat and what not to eat, and find themselves confused about best nutrition practices.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The truth is, while nutrition is still a new science that is being explored, there is enough credible research and evidence to show what happens to the human body when you consume a type of food—and how much of that food you actually need. Like...do you need 100 grams of protein a day? (No). How about carbs, should you cut them completely? (It's pretty much impossible).⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Instead of waiting on the sidelines, I decided to jump all in. I love what I get to write, so why not give myself the tools to make my reporting even better? I've always wanted a deeper knowledge of the subject matter because I want to give YOU the best nutrition content possible.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
