Being a writer isn’t the easiest job in the world. While it is fun to research and write about all kinds of topics in the world of food, the rounds of critiques (and endless hate emails) you receive can be incredibly discouraging. It’s just sadly the kind of online world we live in, and one of the things I deal with throughout my days. But every now and then, as a food writer, you get the opportunity to try some really cool things. I get to take cooking classes, try new products, attend swanky launch parties (sigh, when parties were a thing), and get to hear about all the latest innovations in the food industry. So when Kettle Brand Potato Chips reached out to me and asked if I was up for taking a Sparkling Apple Sangria class in honor of the release of their Apple Cider Vinegar chips…well, how in the world could I say no?
And…how could I not invite my teammates? Part of our team over at EatThis.com joined in for the class, and it was a fun to spend happy hour with my colleagues. Even if it was on another video call.
Plus, as you can tell, I’m a fan of sangria. A big fan of sangria. So I was excited for this cocktail class.
Like I said, the class was hosted by Kettle Brand, who recently relaunched their limited edition Apple Cider Vinegar chips. I’m telling you, these chips are good. If you’re a salt & vinegar chip fan like I am, you’re going to love this flavor. Not only does it pairs really well with this Sparkling Apple Sangria, but it also doesn’t have too much of a sour bite like a normal salt & vinegar chip. It has that flavor, but it’s not as overpowering. Which, if you’re not careful, can lead you to eating the whole bag in one sitting. I would know from experience…
Now here’s the deal: This recipe is not mine! It is gifted from Maureen Petrosky, a cocktail expert and author of the books The Wine Club and The Cocktail Club. Her books are actually really sweet. If you’ve ever wanted to learn more about wine or about cocktails, you can buy her book and walk through a little step-by-step guide—and even start a club and learn it with your friends!
Maureen was very sweet during our cocktail class. She answered all of our crazy questions about cocktails, mocktails, zero proof drinks, chips, pairing, and even a few tangents about personal hobbies.
So, I’m here to share that drink recipe with you—and to encourage you to try it with Apple Cider Vinegar chips.
And no, this post isn’t sponsored. I’m just giving a little love to a product that I’m super into right now.
Here’s the recipe—happy fall everyone!
