It’s been a long time since I’ve written one of these. But truthfully, I’ve been busy. I’m sort of launching this huge work project coming up soon (*sshhhh* you didn’t hear it from me) and I also have my hands full with another creative project on the side. Don’t get me wrong, I love keeping busy like this. But, well, it sort of does take up a lot of my energy. You’d think at 27 I would be better at knowing how to balance at all? Guess I still have a lot to learn.
So, what’s life like lately? Well, let’s start with the beginning of the month. I went upstate with my “COVID bubble” to see a house my friends bought. We spent the weekend doing all kinds of fall things—drinking whiskey, going for long hikes, carving pumpkins, watching halloween movies, roasting butternut squash, baking bread…it was eventful. And relaxing. And felt so “normal” it made me cry. I’m really thankful to have them.
Also, how is this my first time ever watching The Nightmare Before Christmas? Where have I been my whole life? Sheesh.
Real question though…which pumpkin is mine? I’ll give you a hint.
Even if we can’t hang in person, my friends and I have gotten really good at finding hobbies we can share about in text threads. I have a mini text thread going with two friends to talk all things sourdough, and it’s so fun. They recently convinced me to buy this sourdough cookbook and it’s the best! I have a cranberry pumpkin loaf rising right now. I really, really love sourdough. I’m really so happy I’ve kept up with it.
Things are getting scary again in New York, and I likely won’t have many moments of eating outdoors. But recently I was able to dine out with a friend at her booked wedding venue, and it was divine. We drank wine, ate small plates, and polished off cheesecake as we dreamed up her wedding.
Oh, and I really wasn’t kidding about my new tea hobby. I’ve been collecting tea items and am enjoying a little afternoon tea every day. Tea time is usually around 4 p.m. when I get off work, which is a good time to enjoy a little snack with my tea while I catch up on my favorite blogs or do a little writing. I’ve also developed a tea scone recipe that I plan on sharing soon! Stay tuned.
To be honest, this On My Plate was good for me to write. It made me realize that despite some of the doom I feel day-in-and-day-out, I really have a lot to be thankful for right now. I have friends that look out for my well being, care about involving me in their lives, and even want to get nerdy about sourdough with me.
So, that’s on my plate right now. What’s on yours? Share below!
