Back in March, I posted a few tips on how to work-from-home successfully. And while those tips were helpful, boy was I so not ready for the amount of working from home I would be doing. I mean, it’s mid-September, and I’m still working from home. For the foreseeable future. And although my tips back then are still helpful, there are a few more tips that I need to share with y’all.
Don’t wear pants.
But still look presentable! What’s a good solution? Dresses. About two months ago I got so sick of putting jeans on, so I threw on a dress. And wouldn’t you know, I had the most comfortable (and successful) day in a really long time. So now in the morning I just put on a dress. And when it gets colder out, I’ll add a sweater. Maybe some leggings? Probably not. I mean, I’m not leaving the apartment, so why bother?
Cook different meals.
I used to be the meal prep queen. But lately? I’ve been pretty sick of it. Plus, why would I need to prep lunches for the week when I’m at home and I can cook a different breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day? I’m not in a rush to run to the office, and my break room is usually my kitchen. When I started getting creative with my meals, lunchtime felt a lot more exciting. I still plan out a few general things (like what I do with my What To Cook meal plan series), but I don’t hold on to that meal plan tightly.
Take breaks away from the computer.
I talked a little bit about breaks before, but honestly, stop doing it at your computer. Scrolling through social media or watching a YouTube video isn’t going to feel that relaxing. Step away from the screen, get some water, or even go for a walk around the block. Sometimes I’ll even bake a little something when I need a break—like these chocolate chip cookies.
Drink less.
Water is a different story, drink lots of that. But I started feeling really sick last week, and realized it was probably because I was drinking an alcoholic beverage almost every night. I really wish I could say I’m kidding, but I’m not. I started limiting my alcohol consumption, and I overall started feeling better. And getting out of bed no longer feels horrific.
Workout outside
I really love my morning bike rides, and while I do miss going to the office, I really do love starting my day on my bike. I wake up around 7, go for a ride until around 7:45 or 8, and still have enough time to take a shower, cook some breakfast, and read my bible before I start the day. If I were commuting, my mornings would never look that awesome. So I’m going to enjoy this while I can—or at least until it’s bitter cold outside. You should, too.
Leave the apartment every day.
There have been long stretches of time that I haven’t left my apartment while quarantined, and I was going ape-s**t. So I try to leave every day. Usually, it’s my bike rides, but if I don’t ride in the morning, I’ll go for a walk or grab a coffee-to-go somewhere. It keeps me sane.
Alright, that’s what I got for now. I’m sure I’ll have even more come the end of this year. I hope these encourage you at home. And dear lord, do yourself a favor and ditch the pants.
