I’ve always been a reader. At the end of every summer, I would walk around school with egotistical satisfaction showing off how many books I read compared to my classmates (two was always the requirement, I averaged about 16). When I finally finished grad school, I devoured every book on my shelf I no longer had time for—52 books in 2017 alone. The bookshelves in our apartment are huge, and I always love showing off my little library to all my friends. Needless to say, I’m a bit prideful about how much I read, and I have a lot of books to share with you. So I figured I’d start a new little series where I recommend a few books for you to read each season. Sound good? Here are a few of the books I recommend to read this fall as you curl up on the couch with your chai lattes.
Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie
It’s *spooky* season, and nothing says Halloween like a good murder mystery. I’m a huge Agatha Christie fan, and this is by far one of my favorites. Snag your copy here.
The Wednesday Sisters by Meg Waite Clayton
A group of young moms meet in the park and start a writing club, which transforms into a supportive group of women revolved around the revolution of women’s rights in the 1960s. A light, yet powerful, read. Snag your copy here.
Peony In Love by Lisa See
Everything Lisa touches turns to gold. Every book she has written is magical and moving—stories of women in all different generations and locations in China. This is a mystical telling of a girl who fell in love, to the point where she became sick with longing and eventually passed away. Only to haunt her love for many years after. Snag your copy here.
Brooklyn by Colm Tóibín
An incredible story about a young woman immigrating from Ireland and settling in Brooklyn, New York. It was enchanting to read as someone who’s resided in Brooklyn for over 4 years now. I still have yet to see the movie…Snag your copy here.
The House I Loved by Tatiana De Rosnay
I like to turn to historical fiction in the fall, and Tatiana De Rosnay is the queen of writing the perfect period story. This story is of a woman in the 1860s who refuses to give up her home after an order from the government set to bulldoze many houses in the area, to the point where she stays in the home when that fateful day soon comes. Persuasion by Jane Austen
I’m late to the game, but I’m a newly found lover of all things Jane Austen, and this is by far one of my favorites. This was the last novel she ever wrote. Snag your copy here.
