I know most of the world was all about fall the beginning of September, but for me, the transfer wasn’t happening quite yet. I mean, it’s still blazing hot in NYC, and there’s no way I’m pulling a scarf or even a jacket out yet with the subway stations being as hot as my oven.
But now it’s September 22, the official first day of Fall, and I figured I would document the switch with none other than a capsule wardrobe. You know the drill – 33 items for 3 months. It’s certainly a challenge, but perfect for someone like me who loves that minimalistic lifestyle. As you know, I’ve been trying to get rid of my clothes on Poshmark so I can make some space in my closet. I just don’t feel the need to have excess clothing when I already have everything I need.
Now, of course, capsule wardrobes are quite flexible and you really can do whatever you want with them. So in the spirit of making this a more individual project (and frankly, a stress-free endeavor), here are the rules I go by with my capsule wardrobes:
- Jewelry doesn’t count in this capsule. This gives me the freedom to accessorize with any of my outfits.
- Pajamas and workout clothes also do not count. If I were to include them, I would pretty much be recycling through only two or three different outfits, so that wouldn’t exactly work.
- There will be no such thing as “lounge clothes.” I actually don’t own a ton of sweatpants or sweatshirts anymore after reading The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up. Marie Kondo points out how “lounge clothes” just means having extra clothes taking up space in your closet, particularly stuff you would never wear. Plus, once I put on lounge clothes, I get nothing done. Being dressed up helps me to focus throughout my day.
- Dress up events – such as work functions or what not – don’t count. Hence why I don’t have any heels or dressy outfits in the mix.
Alright, here’s the capsule:
